What’s the deal? You ask…Before I show you, I have to warn you. I took this video with my crappy camera while I was on the OCEAN. It’s not steady. AT ALL. Plus, I’m so god-damned cold, excited and a little freaked out that I’m shaking like a leaf. Consider yourself warned. Oh-and turn your volume up so you can hear them (and me and Dylan and DJ).
This is the deal:

If you look closely at this next one, you can see a Sea Lion playing with the “little” whale that’s jumping. It was crazy! The sea lion would swim along with them and then jump out of the water and then the whale would jump out of the water…they were totally feeding off each other. I’ve never seen anything like it and I probably won’t ever again. But you can bet your ass I’ll try!

Holy SHIT!!! We were searching for dolphins and saw these beasts. THREE separate sets of them. And an ORCA and tons of Sea Lions and we even found the dolphins we’d been searching for. They played with our boat’s wake. It was awesome.
I can’t even put into words how awesome it was. I could hardly contain myself. I was like a kid in a candy store. We have Grey Whales up and down the coast a few times a year and it’s always fun to see them, but I’ve never ventured far enough into the channel (we were about 6 miles off the coast) to see Humpback’s or Blue Whales. It was…awe inspiring. It was humbling. It kicked ASS. We were the only boat in the area (there was another boat, a big whale watching rig, about 3 miles away just hanging out, presumably watching more whales, but we were all alone with our whales. And we were close to them. It was a little freaky. Dylan hated the sound they made when they came up for air, so he cried and covered his ears. He was much happier when we moved on and found dolphins…”they’re little and quiet” is why he said he liked them.
I’m rambling. I can’t come up with a coherent thought or sentence about it still. I’m pissed at DJ that my camera sucks ass. I got shitty pictures. But it was awesome.
And just to clarify, I didn’t pee my pants, but I WAS that excited. My lifelong dream, to hear DJ tell it, was to have kiddos and stay at home with them. And that’s true. But before I even wanted kids…I had a thing for Humpback’s. I even had a poster in my room when I was little. And as for ruining boating? No boating experience will EVER live up to this one. I don’t think it could possibly work out this well more than once. Because OH MY GOD, as I said to my sister when I called her from the boat “THERE ARE THREE MOTHER FUCKING HUMPBACK WHALES 100 FEET AWAY FROM ME RIGHT NOW!” and then it happened again. And again.
My day kicked ass…How was your day?

We were on my Father-in-law’s 23′ fishing boat. There wasn’t another boat for MILES. It was AWESOME.
Wow, so you were on your own boat, too, huh? That is private!! Do you guys do this often?? I would be so freaked to be out in open water without seeing the shoreline. *shudder*

I cracked up at the “Whales are our friends part….” It didn’t sound like he believed you.
We went whale watching before we had kids (in Cape Cod, MA). It was unbelievably awesome–probably one of my favorite life experiences. I can’t wait to take my kids with us one day.

our first chance was absolutely RUINED by poor weather, you couldn’t tell a whale from a wave. and people were puking off the back of the boat. babies were all sound asleep though…twas the rocking i think.
second chance…all we saw were dolphins. very very cool. i cried i believe. but it still wasn’t my whales.
next chance…hawaii in the winter. i’m going as soon as i can. and i may just do it without family in tow. wanna go? totally want my kids to see them too…but i may just need a little time to myself, ya know?
