It’s Like a Heat Wave…

by Meghan on June 18, 2008

It’s proving difficult to get back into the swing of things following our mini-vacation.  I’m EXHAUSTED.  Seriously.  I need a vacation after my vacation.  A few days in a hotel, sans kids, sitting by the pool with an ice cold beverage. Getting a good night’s sleep.  RELAXING.  Instead of running around San Diego (YES!  We were in San Diego…some of you “super” sleuths figured it out pretty quickly) with two kids and walking MILES at both the San Diego Zoo and Sea World.  Going to bed late, getting up early.  Sun, sun & more sun.

Ahhh…it was a lovely time.  But it was tiring and I certainly did not come back rested & relaxed.  And now it’s hotter that sin here.  As in it’s 12 Noon on the dot and it’s already 94 which is a good 10 degrees hotter than our usual high temps.  So although some of you are all “94 isn’t hot!” it IS HOT when you’re used to temperatures in the 70′s.

I’m done ranting and now I need a nap so I’m going to share some photos with you of our trip.  A very FEW photos.  Because I don’t have the time or energy to add more.

I so love watching kids eat the ice directly out of their cups… with their dirty little hands. It makes me glad to know that mine aren’t the only ones!

One day I will go to the San Diego Zoo. I love going to the zoo (Brookfield, IL) and will someday plan an entire vacation around San Diego – just for the zoo! Oh yeah – and the nice weather too. I love how close you can get to the giraffes.
Hope you feel rested soon.

oh my, is that hippo HUGE!!!

And that last picture – a study of three emotions… I’d have to go with agony, ecstasy, and, well, concentration :)

We took my twins to San Diego when they were a little over two years old and I was 6 months pregnant. We spent a day at Sea World, one at the beach and the final day at Lego Land. As we were walking to the car at the end of our Lego Land day someone made a comment about how cute my kids were. It distracted me and I spilled lemonade all over one of my kids. She started crying and I immediately started crying. The woman apologized and all I could say was, “I’m so tired, I’m so tired,” over and over.

Yeah, kid-centric “vacations” are exhausting.

That hippo photo is amazing, and the giraffe is awesome, too. Sounds like a great (exhausting) trip!

Oh, and it’s, like, 110 degrees here in Arizona. So there. :-) But I get what you mean. At least we don’t have the humidity, too.

Wow – that Hippopotamus is HUGE!! And you – you are so cute there with your green drink and your screamin’ baby!! Looks like a lovely trip. Still trying to talk Budman into GOING somewhere when we take our vacation at the end of the month. Alas, we’ll probably spend the entire time at the lake on the boat. life is tough, I tell ya…

How is it that vacations are rarely relaxing? I love the pictures. A giraffe at the St. Louis Zoo just gave birth to a baby giraffe in the middle of the day right in front of all the visitors. That baby was 6 feet tall!

What’s funny is that a few years ago we went to San Diego, well we stayed in LaJolla and our hotel was so amazing we gave up all our touristy plans and just sat on the beach for 3 days! I don’t regret it for a moment.

But I really do need to get to that Zoo!
