Sure Signs It’s Fall

by Meghan on October 4, 2009

We don’t really have definitive seasons here.  It was something that, after moving from New York, took me some time to get used to.

There are a few things that happen, though, that make me realize fall is definitely upon us.

  • I look for any excuse to wear a sweater.
  • I cook dishes that contain cranberries.
  • I put my  kids in footie pajamas.
  • Grilled Cheese Sandwiches and Soup are a logical meal choice.
  • Pumpkin Spice Lattes are at the top of my must have list.
  • I don’t wear my flip flops every single day.
  • I put a blanket on the bed.
  • I stop sleeping with the window open.
  • I look at the thermostat.
  • I try to remind myself what a thermostat does.
  • I buy socks.
  • I debate whether my kids need to wear a jacket.
  • I opt for the jacket, because they look so gosh darn cute.
  • I think about buying myself a rain jacket
  • I decide against it.
  • I think about drinking hot tea.
  • I decide against it.
  • I break out the flannel sheets.
  • I decide to wait a while before I put them on the beds.

As soon as it’s time for flannel sheets, though?  It’s my cue that winter is upon us.  Just wait for THAT list.

I may have to drag you up to Canada and make you suffer in the snow as punishment for writing this list.
Going to turn on my furnace and wrap myself in my down comforter now.

Now that’s a fall list I identify with! This time last year I was living in Virginia (for 6 months) and realizing that trees really do change colors and there is such thing as FOUR seasons! Boy do I miss those colors!

My husband and I adore flannel sheets and we use them all year long. Had company this summer and they didn’t understand how we can use flannel in the summer. I too, when buying sheets for our two guests rooms automatically bought flannel. So if you stay here you better like flannel. Love the Pumkin spiced drinks too! I got a really cute raincoat last year at Old Navy for like $7.00. Hope we get some rain this year, but not too much!

You should try living in the UK where we have no discernable seasons whatsoever; in fact we have one season all year round called “crapness” where it isnt cold, it isnt warm, wet, dry or interesting.

We want our seasons back, and we are willing to protest the streets to get em.

I love fall. Love, love. And that’s a great list, although I may have to add hot chocolate to it.

You should absolutely buy a rain jacket because they are just the cutest things ever. And while you are at it, get yourself some rain boots!

1. College football.
2. Baseball playoffs.
3. Grass nearly stops growing. More time to watch 1. and 2.
4. Sweater-weather.
5. Turn A/C off — it’s been running non-stop since late April.
6. New episodes of Dexter.
7. Hummingbirds fatten up for the long trip south.
8. Spring is only five months away.

We’re having a very mild fall so far in southern New England. It’s colder, but not too cold, so much of your list is my list!

I made the kids grilled cheese and soup yesterday. Totally awesome fall soul food!!!

Oh how I love fall! In the midwest it is a sure sign when the rain comes for days on end. I love the sound of rain when I am snuggled under flannel sheets. So perfect!!

Oh that’s kinda sad. I love seasons, but ours are a bit confused here in colorado. I’m hoping for a bit of an Indian Summer to make an appearance.

Now I want a pumpkin spice latte. Ahhh.

I still sleep with the window open, I just turned off the fan and added the blanket. I think I could wear my flip flops in snow, can’t you?
