You, yes YOU, can make the cake I baked tonight.
I’m not entirely sure you’ll want to, after looking at my photos, but that’s another story.
Anyhow, I learned about it yesterday when Jenn tweeted a link to it.
This is, quite literally, a cake ANYONE can make. I’m pretty sure if I weren’t anal and had been willing to let Dylan do the measuring, he could have made this cake. At five years old.
Of course, as soon as I saw the recipe I knew that “MugCake,” as Metalia officially named it, and I were destined to be.
Because really, who can argue against a CHOCOLATE CAKE that takes FIVE MINUTES to make. Even if it does kind of look like a steaming pile of poop. *cough*
The boys thought it was the greatest thing EVER. They didn’t have to suffer through an hour of measuring and mixing.
They only had to wait three minutes for it to cook.
I loved it because I dirtied a tablespoon and a mug and a plate. If I had just eaten it out of the mug, I could have cut my clean up time in half. SCORE.
Next time, I will top it with either frosting or ice cream. Or Kahlua.
You can thank me later. For now, get thee to the kitchen and make some MugCake.

Holy moly. I now want cake for breakfast.
I made it and it was AWESOME!
Had company over on Friday night and we did takeout, I never got dessert. This was PERFECT!!
I absolutely have to try this! (Also: HOW CUTE ARE YOUR BOYS?)
Wow! that looks fantastic!! and much better than emergency baking an entire cake and then eating the WHOLE THING!!
Dammit, this is so NOT on my diet.
You are truly an inspiration to us lazy peoples.
So it is yummy? Doesn’t taste like microwaved ick??
It’s yummy. Would be MUCH better, obviously, with frosting or ice cream…it’s a little dense, so something lighter would help.
Also, the chocolate chips are a necessity.
I am thinking this may be on the menu for tonights dinner.. as the meal. I mean it does represent most of the food groups..
Add some peanut butter!
Awesome! And I think it would be just perfect to decorate like my favorite Japanese character — DOMO KUN!
You had me at “chocolate cake”. Adding cocoa to my list now.
I’m gonna spring this on my crew this weekend!!
When this craze hit my circle of internet friends (over a year ago!!), we all got very excited and posted about how AWESOME it was, then came back later and told everyone how incredibly sick we got from it. I got some mild food poisoning from this recipe so try it yourself before giving it to your kids! Unless you use like free range organic eggs that can be eaten raw or something, I’m pretty sure it was the (inadequately cooked) egg that made us all sick.
Maybe you didn’t cook it long enough? The versions I’ve had were cooked through.
When I have to stay up late tonight to get ready to work tomorrow night, I am probably going to be making this for a quick pick me up. I can’t wait to try it!!
