Kindergartener

by Meghan on August 23, 2010

I’m tired.

And still pregnant.

And uncomfortable.

And all I really want to do is sit on the couch and eat ice cream.

I CERTAINLY don’t feel like writing anything.

Except Dylan started Kindergarten today and Heather says I have to write about it now, because if I have the baby tonight, I’ll never get around to documenting it.

And DAMMIT, I hate it when she’s right.

So we’ll make this short and sweet, just like his explanation of the day was.

He started off happy.

Ready for Kindergarten!!!

But as soon as it was time to actually LEAVE, the tears started.

And they continued on the five minute walk to school. And in the playground before school started. And as they lined up to head into the classroom.

Nervous

By the time they made it to the classroom, the tears had stopped. Thankfully.

And I’d somehow managed to keep mine at bay! SCORE!!!

I spent the day worrying and wondering what he was doing.

When we picked him up, he told us he’d spent the day:

Playing on the playground and not making friends.

And learning rules. Namely:

  • No running anywhere but on the grass
  • No pushing
  • You have to wait for someone to be done with a toy before you can take it

I’m hopeful the last two weren’t directed at him.

We had a nice walk home and he doesn’t seem too opposed to going back tomorrow.

However, he says he’ll cry because he misses us when he’s there.

He survived!

Us too, buddy. Us too.

That picture of him crying is HEARTBREAKING Meghan.

Also, the best blackmail picture of all time. I see visions of his 18 year old birthday invitations…

Snif snif! A day you will never forget trust me! The rules they would be directed at my G! She is alll about the power of possesion though I think it is related to being the middle child?
But I sit here tonight alos heart broken that I miss the first day’s of pre-school, 3rd and 5th grade this year, the kids they hate me for it. This being a Mom thing hits hard sometimes! But I think the kids sitter’s will be singing “its the most wonderful time of the year” on the first day! 15 more days and counting here!

Sweet. Love the pics.

I just realized that the one thing I really miss from your old site design is the font. For some reason, that just seemed so…”you” to me! Like it spoke in your voice for me. #MyTwoCents

Aw… so cute. My husband used to take a picture of his family with him every day so he could look at it. When he went to Kindergarten… not like last week or anything.

Seeing boys cry just kills me dead. You must be glad the baby waited so that you could be there for Dylan ‘s first day.

Wow, a kindergartener already! I just wanted to give him a hug in that one photo, poor little guy must have been a pile of nerves. I remember feeling that way on the first day of school. So glad to hear he ended up having a good day, and I’m sure the days will just get better and better.

Sending you come soon baby vibes. Can’t wait to hear about the arrival of the little man.

The only thing harder than the first day of kindergarten is the last day. At least it was for me and my daughter. The journey and growth over this year is so amazing, you hate to see it end. Next year, my youngest and final kid will begin kindergarten, that may be tougher knowing there are no more babies at home.

Great pics, so sweet.

Oh no. It didn’t occur to me that the kid might cry!?!?! I have two boxes of kleenex ready for tomorrow. One for me and one for Ladybugs mom. But if Ladybug starts crying? Well, we are done. Stick a fork in us done.

Oh the first day of school, it only gets more special. I have one going in the 5th grade, and a 3 year old getting ready to start pre-school. I can already feel the tears coming in. Hugs to you and the baby.
