The Light At the End of the Tunnel

by Meghan on August 26, 2010

I can see it ahead.

The finish line is approaching.

Rapidly.

I had my ultrasound with the perinatologist yesterday and thankfully the baby is doing just fine.  He’s measuring right on track at a solid 6lbs.

The only downside to this is that it means they won’t induce me tomorrow.  Which sucks, but I’m finding it hard to be disappointed that I have a healthy baby growing inside me.

The upside, though, is that I reach the magical 39 week induction mark this coming Tuesday.  And somehow all the stars aligned and my Doctor is on call on Wednesday.  SO, I’m officially scheduled to be induced on Wednesday, September 1st!

It’s very exciting and a huge relief to have an actual date in mind.  It’s also a huge relief to know that I’ll be able to make it to the hospital without the baby making his debut in the car.  Which seems to be a real possibility, as every medical professional I’ve spoken to recently has reiterated the fact that this baby is most likely going to come flying right out.  That’s a pretty picture, ain’t it?

ALSO, and almost most importantly, it means I will definitely be able to get an epidural.  Because honestly, the thought of not being able to get one leaves me weak in the knees.

Now, we’ve already discussed that I’m not willing to ASSUME things will go down any particular way.  So all of this only matters if I don’t spontaneously go into labor between now and Wednesday.

Which is a real possibility seeing as I’m considered full term and I’m already dilated to 5cm.

The plan for the next five days (!!!) is to relax, try to enjoy the final days of my final pregnancy (sad face) and spend as much time with my boys on their final days as a twosome.

I’m so excited to meet this tiny person I can hardly stand it.

You can make it to Sept 1! I was at 5 cm for 3 weeks with my first and she was 3 days late. So you can do it! Enjoy your final days with the two, and congrats!

Not to frighten you or anything, but both of my kids were supposed to be scheduled inductions. Until I went into labor the day before. Twice. Can’t wait until kung fu fetus is kung-fu newborn!

My oldest will turn 21 on September 1, so it is a great day to have a baby. Hope you make it until then, and enjoy these last days as a mother of two and of pregnancy.

V ery very exciting news. Just don’t say it too loud, it’s like when you’re driving somewhere and you say, “wow, this is great, no traffic jams..” Then, bam, “traffic Jam.” :) lol

Seriously though, very exciting!! I wish you guys all the best, and totally know what your future path will be-fun and amazing and wonderful and tired and busy and interesting- :)

Meghan,
I wish you the best of luck!
If your 3rd labor is anything like mine was then your little guy will definitely come flying into the world.
I was induced for mine and once again did not get to enjoy an epidural but he made it easy on me and it didn’t even take much of a (yes, one) single push to launch him into this world.
Good luck to you and all the boys!

Okay, I’ve followed you for several years, and rarely comment. Shame on me I know. But I just had to send my best of luck thoughts to you on your last weekend with just 2 kids.

Enjoy enjoy – and more importantly – get that epidural as soon as you can! My 3rd took all of 2 pushes …

The week before my induction, I was at the doctor and his comment was similar to your “fly right out.” Mine was more, “if the fruit were any riper it would fall right off the tree.” And they were right! I checked into the hospital at 10am and baby came into the world at 3pm.

Sounds like you are right on track. Best of luck.

Glad to hear that KFF is doing well and is healthy. And hopefully he doesn’t fly to quickly, as mother’s to two ‘pilots of the girly bits’ its painful and they spend more time fixing the runway than it took for the babies to fly outta it.
