Literally. I’m typing this from 37,000 feet in the air, somewhere above Illinois. Or Indiana. It’s cloudy below us and the sun just set, so I can see lights every so often. The clouds are causing some bumps, which is occasionally causing my stomach to jump into my throat. I wish I could get a shot of tequila.
Anyway, I left the kids and my husband, and all talk about remodeling, in Santa Barbara and I’m headed to Washington DC to spend a few days with my sister and her family. I am super excited about it. I don’t get to see them often enough and when we do see each other it’s usually for big family gatherings and there are children around to hamper our adult fun.
Her children will be around, but we’re going to find some time to sneak away and do big girl stuff. Like see U2 in concert. And have dinner with friends. And go wine tasting while the kiddos are in school. Her husband is a saint and is going to stay home and keep the children from falling down stairs and slamming their fingers in doors (hopefully) while we go out and get some awesome sister bonding time in.
We haven’t done that for a VERY long time. In fact, I can’t even really remember the last time we spent a lot of time together, just the two of us. It’s especially important to do now, because in January she and her family are moving out of the country for three years. Just typing that sentence makes me sad. Very, very sad.
But, I am excited for them. This is an amazing opportunity, and I am bound and determined to get the boys their passports so we can traverse the globe to visit them in far away places.
But that’s still a while off. For now, we’re going to have a FANTASTIC time for the next three days.
