Hurry Up and Wait

by Meghan on June 16, 2011

The home buying process up until this point has been a bit of a whirlwind. We made the decision pretty quickly, and before we knew it we were applying for loans and talking numbers and gathering paperwork and HURRYING, because there’s another offer! And how knows if/when it will be accepted! Everything must be done quickly! All the while, we were looking at each other and thinking ARE WE INSANE?! The answer to that is probably yes.

But as soon as we got everything together and put in the offer, things just kind of stopped, and it became a waiting game. Will they accept our offer? Are we the highest bidder? Are we really getting ourselves into a MAJOR remodel?

Once we found out that yes, they had in fact accepted our offer, we began waiting for the paperwork to come through. We’re *still* waiting for the paperwork to come through. We’re waiting to hear exactly how long escrow will be (our initial offer said 35 days, but some property repairs need to be completed, so that may change), and we really want to know when we will be able to close and start working on the property.

But once we have a date, we still have to wait an entire month for that date to arrive. Thankfully, there is a lot of planning to be done to keep us busy, though. What kind of windows? What kind of floors? KitchenAid, GE, or Kenmore appliances? Kitchen cabinets from Merillat, Kitchen Craft or Kraft Maid? Most importantly, how are we going to pay for all of this? That’s kind of a big one.

The only things we’re sure of is that we have A LOT of work ahead of us. And that we’re *hopefully* going to enjoy some most of it.

And, our entire family is going to sleep in this tiny portion of the house while we do the initial work on the rest of it. So that should be fun.

That will be cosy. Also worth it once everything is done.
