I had the boys in the tub last night and within 5 minutes Ollie refused to stay seated, so I got him out and was in the living room getting him ready for bed when I heard a thud in the bathroom. The giggles stopped and Zach started to cry. I didn’t think too much about it because Zach hurts himself ALL THE TIME. This was nothing new.
But then Dylan yelled “MOM! Zach’s bleeding!” and I just KNEW it wasn’t going to be good news.
And it wasn’t. He had a nice sized gash smack in the middle of his right eyebrow.
We spent about 10 minutes getting the bleeding to slow down, getting him calmed down and dressed, and then he and I headed out the door to the ER.
As soon as we pulled up, he said “We’ve been here before!” I was hopeful his enthusiasm would transfer into a calm ER experience. Of course, the waiting room was packed, so we filled out our form and waited to be called back for triage. He played his DS and I watched the Tony’s on the waiting room TV. We were both happy. I was even “happier” as I saw more and more children coming in behind us needing stitches. Apparently there was something in the air last night and we had arrived at the ER at the just the right time.
We were finally taken back to a bed and we told by several different people that the Doctor was backed up and we’d have a bit of a wait before he was seen. It was about 9:30 by this time, so we settled in to relax while we waited.
The Doctor finally came in and after a minor meltdown, he was a total rockstar while she stitched him up. It probably helped that we spent the entire time talking about frozen yogurt and his favorite movies. The crayon bandaid and Lightning McQueen stickers he got afterward totally made his day. I had a tootsie roll pop in my bag for him, and he made a point of showing it to EVERYONE as we walked out of the ER. I’m sure the drunk guy with the dislocated shoulder was super happy that Zach was in such high spirits.
He charmed the pants off of everybody else, though.

Poor little dude. Now he’s going to have a hockey eyebrow! Plus side is he’ll blend in up here if he ever comes to Canada *g*
Poor Zach. He didn’t have to go to such extremes to have an exciting story to tell his friends. I’m glad he’s not too badly hurt.
Boys! Glad he was okay. Do you have an after hours peds place by you? Noah needed stitches 2 weeks ago and we were in and out cant rave enough about the awesomeness of the place.
Thank goodness the drunk guy kept his pants. Ba Dum Ching
I love that he recognizes the ER, I don’t feel so bad as a mom. My son was invited to a nurses retirement party, that’s how “cozy” he got with the ER. LOL
