Reality Bites

by Meghan on July 25, 2011

August is a week away. A WEEK. In seven days, it will be August 1st.

I’m not entirely sure how that happened, and I’m not entirely sure how happy I am about it.

On one hand, it means we’re that much closer to closing on the new house and moving.

On the other hand, it means we’re that much closer to closing on the new house and moving.

As we get closer to getting the house and moving into it, I find myself spending more and more time thinking about decorating it. Which is funny, seeing as it’s going to be a demo/construction zone for who knows how long. Decorating it is a long time coming, and I should probably be spending my time thinking about how to pack so I can keep us organized and not ripping into boxes of crap for the one thing in there that I absolutely MUST HAVE in the next few months. Also, what toys should I take for the boys and what toys can stay packed? What do I need for the “kitchen” and what can stay packed. Should I keep some wine glasses out, or should I use plastic cups for that as well? Is it tacky to offer guests wine in a plastic cup? Is it less tacky to do it if you’re sitting in your living room/bedroom/play room/kitchen at the same time?

We gave our 30 days notice to our landlord, and are supposed to be out of this house by 5pm on August 8th. That gives me 15 days to get everything packed. Throw in swim lessons, soccer camp shuttling, nap times, play times and other daily life activities and I feel like time is beginning to run out.

So I should probably get off the couch and start packing, huh?

On another note, Oliver is busy getting three new teeth, which means I’ve spent a good part of the past few nights sitting up with him, trying to get him to calm down and go back to sleep. He’s continuing his previous trend of getting insanely congested and snotty while teething, so that hasn’t helped matters.

Also, he keeps trying to bite me, which I understand is teething and baby related, but it’s seriously starting to get on my nerves, and I need to figure out a way to get him to stop before it really becomes a problem. I’ve never had a kid who was a biter, so I have no idea how to handle this situation. Any ideas you have to offer are welcome.

Now I’m going to get off my stupid, old, ugly couch to start packing my house. I have a good hour until we have to leave for swim lessons.

Packing and unpacking is the absolute WORST part of moving. Good luck!

Here’s an idea of how making your baby to stop biting you: there are this biting plastic toys which are make exactly for babies who are teething. I tried that on my daughter and guess what- worked like a charm :)

HOW IS IT ALMOST AUGUST?? How?

Also. That child. Oh my god. He’s sickeningly adorable even when making that face. But, really, I hope this stupid teething business ends soon for his sake and for yours. xoxo

Time to call upon your peeps in Greater Netlandia. Many hands make light work. Buy some donuts and coffee, and pizza at lunch time and you would have women who would be happy to help. It’s a tribe thing, you know?

we always used a frozen washcloth for teething or that netted feeding thing with an ice cube inside. Those worked the best. Especially in the hot weather. Good Luck!
