Style – I Don’t Have It

by Meghan on August 9, 2011

I’ve never had a great sense of style. I mean, I rarely “get” the new fashion trends and even if it’s something I like, I can’t figure out how to implement it into my own wardrobe.

What I mean by that is, you will never see me in a pair of Gladiator sandals. Ever. And although I’d love to rock a pair of skinny jeans with some cute boots, I probably never will because I can’t figure out what boots to buy, and even if I could I probably wouldn’t be able to come up with a top to wear with it.

It’s so much easier to pull on a pair of jeans and a simple tank top than to have to actually think about what I’m going to wear. If it’s a lazy day with a trip to the grocery store, my comfy flip flops fit the bill perfectly. If I need to “dress it up” a bit, I’ll put on my nice flip flops. See how simple that is? The most difficult part of the day is finding a pair of matching flip flops from throughout the house.

It’s a relief to have boys, because I don’t have to worry too much about fostering their sense of style. I take cues from their personality and buy clothes accordingly. And, at this point in their life, they really couldn’t care less about what they wear. Dylan is my preppy jock and Zach is my edgy California dude. This is proving somewhat expensive, though, because it just seems wrong to dress Zachary in some of the clothes that “fit” Dylan so well. A good chunk of the clothes that Dylan wore as a 3 year old went unworn by Zachary this past year. Luckily, I haven’t figured out Ollie’s style yet, since he’s still a baby, so there’s still hope for them.

As for me, since I’ve had some success with my low-carb diet and exercise routine, I need to invest in some new clothes. My pants and shorts are all too big now. Which is a great problem to have, I know. But the thought of going shopping and getting some new stuff, while exciting, is also terrifying. I want to branch out and try new things, but I’m not entirely sure how to make that happen.

I need a personal shopper. And a winning lottery ticket.

I feel the EXACT same way. I am three pounds away from losing 20 pounds, and finally feel comfortable in short and summer dresses. But I am still wearing my too big jeans and cropped pants.

I am afraid my girls are not learning style from me. All one wants to wear is sweats and t-shirts. The other wears jeans and t-shirts, just like her mom. I need someone to teach us all how to dress.

I hate shopping for myself but love shopping for others. Too bad I live nowhere near you other wise I’d totally be your personal shopper.

I have a 4 year old daughter and OMG the drama with having to put her in clothing she likes or is in the mood for is enough to make my already thinning hair completely gray!

ditto on the personal shopper and lottery ticket. I’m a horrible dresser and all the things i want to wear, wouldn’t look good on me. My 11yr told could school me in what’s trendy. I also have the opposite problem of you. I need to get some weight off and refuse to buy bigger clothes because of it.

i think it would be a great thing if you have a friend who is really good at picking the right clothes and is basically a fashionista because you don’t need to worry anymore on what you should wear all you have to do is to ask for his or her opinion

You can pick me! I have two daughters and even they are young toddlers, aged 3 and 5, they have a style.

I had the same problem so I started to pay attention to my family members to see whom I like best dressing and at the first family occasion I asked her to join me for a gig. It was a great day and we got to be more friends… Good luck for you!
