Stick In The Mud

by Meghan on November 14, 2011

I feel like a stick in the mud lately. Stuck. I have a ton of stuff going on and I feel like I have a lot to say, but I just can’t bring myself to sit down and write about it here. The kids are okay, the house is coming along, I’m thrilled it’s Fall and therefore sweater season. It’s all kind of boring and normal and…meh.

The most interesting thing going on personally, and the thing that makes me cringe every time I think about it, is that I’m pretty sure that Ollie has a milk allergy. GAH. I’ve suspected for a while that he was somewhat intolerant of dairy. So he hasn’t been drinking cow’s milk or eating yogurt. But he was still getting cheese and other products that contain dairy. And then last week I noticed that his eczema, which all the boys have had to some degree, was OUT OF CONTROL. And his diapers were really, really foul. In both smell and consistency. So the lightbulb went of that it might be some sort of allergy and the idea was born to put him on a diary free diet.

It’s been two days and his eczema is noticeably improved, his dirty diapers are firmer and he even slept through the night last night. Well, except for one instance where he woke up and cried a bit, but went right back to sleep after finding a pacifier. So, time will tell, but I have a feeling I’m on to something. Which really kinda sucks, because figuring out what he can and can’t eat is going to be a nightmare. If you’re in the same boat, or have been previously, please leave me any tips! They are greatly appreciated.

The big boys are fine. Dylan’s school is letting out early all week this week and Monday and Tuesday next week for conferences. Then he’s off Wednesday through Friday for Thanksgiving, which I am VERY MUCH looking forward to. I think I’m more excited about the upcoming Holidays than he is.

Zach is…Zach. Case in point:

That kid kills me dead.

I’ve been quiet here, but I’ve been writing over at Babble. Sometimes, having a deadline is a beautiful thing. In case you missed it, here are some of the things I’ve been talking about:

Also, and most importantly, if you haven’t already, please be sure to download Mike and Heather’s song, You Are The One, for Maddie. All proceeds will benefit Friends of Maddie and, for only $0.99 it’s the cheapest donation to charity you’re going to make this year. If you’re really feeling generous, sponsor a NICU Support Pack as well!

Sorry to hear about the dairy issue. My son has had the intolerance since he was 6 weeks old. In the beginning taking dairy out is totally a PITA because you just don’t know what you can eat. Slowly but surely your re-stock your shelves with all the regular stuff just without dairy. Be careful though it’s really in everything. When I was nursing I needed a sweet treat and found Oreos don’t contain dairy (yes, that’s weird) but it’s just an example that you can find dairy free substitutes for just about anything.

Thanks, Rachel! The silver lining of all of this is that I’m not breastfeeding, so I don’t have to worry about what I eat! I will have to pick up oreos so he can enjoy cookies with his brothers sometimes!

I hear you on the “meh” – life is good, going along, there is stuff to write but sometimes it just doesn’t want to come out…

(But I DO love what you write on babble, even if I don’t always comment over there ;)
