Saturday Shenanigans

by Meghan on December 3, 2011

We have a busy, busy weekend ahead of us with two Birthday parties, a soccer party and work on the house. Never ending work on the house.

Although, if everything goes as planned, we might have heat and insulation by the end of the day today. Which would be awesome since it’s in the 30s at night. Which means it is FREEZING COLD in the house overnight.

Last night we rounded up the kids and headed downtown to the Christmas Parade. Aside from one little skirmish about stealing seats between the two groups of people in front of us, we had a nice time. Dylan was underwhelmed, Ollie was entranced and Zach spent the entire time working on his Thriller moves. And then he proceeded to do cartwheels on the entire walk to the car.

This kid…he is unique.

See what I mean?

Speaking of being unique, I even wrote about it this week, along with a few other things:

And..now I think you’re all caught up!

Don’t forget to set your calendar for the 4th Annual Bloggy Holiday Card Exchange! It’s running December 19th this year!

Hi Meghan.

Came over from the fabulous The Spohrs Are Multiplying site (love reading about the adventures of Heather, Mike & Annie). Also very much enjoying reading about your reno updates (I’m an interior designer by trade, but not doing it as a job) and also the great articles you’ve written on parenting. (So with you on the food one. My parents got angry with me as a kid and would make me sit at the table for hours after bedtime until I ate the food I hated. I still refuse to eat those foods today! Where as I would offer up a selection of foods to my kids (some I knew they liked & some new foods) all I asked was that they try the new foods & if they didn’t like them, they didn’t have to eat them. No fuss, no anger. Now as teenagers, they eat most foods (even the ones I still won’t! Ha)

Love that you honour and nurture the differing personalities of your children. That is a beautiful gift to give them. Thanks for the info about Elf on a Shelf. One of my American school friends posted a photo on Facebook last night with an elf in a bowl of cereal. It was cute, but I didn’t get the reference until now. I don’t think this is something we’re familiar with in Australia.

Thanks for writing. Hello from your readers down under.

Thanks so much for the kind words! I’m definitely having fun pretending to be an interior designer…hopefully it all comes together at the end! :0)

Forcing my kids to eat things they don’t like has definitely backfired on me before. Like the time I made my then 3 year old eat spaghetti, even though he didn’t want to. He ended up gagging on a long noodle and then throwing up all over the table. To this day he pretty much refuses to eat noodles of any kind. WHOOPS!

Take care and keep in touch!
