Kind of like HEADDESK, but instead of heads hitting the proverbial desk in frustration, heads have been hitting the floor…literally.
So, the week started with Ollie being sick. Which, surprisingly, was the first time in a VERY LONG TIME that he’d been to the Doctor for an unplanned visit. He was not a happy camper, and wanted to spend most of his time on me, which is not like him at all.
So off to the Doctor we went, where he was diagnosed with two very nasty ear infections.
Antibiotics on board, we headed home in the hopes that they would work quickly. Except, instead of working, it seemed as if he was having an allergic reaction to them. He woke up in the middle of the night with hives all over his foot and belly. And while I was up trying to find him some meds, he managed to roll right off the chair/bed (yes, we’re still sleeping in the living room) and land on his head on the floor. That didn’t help the situation, as you can imagine.
Thanks to the hives, we ended up at the Doctor again on Tuesday, this time to determine if they were medication or illness related. The final decision was that, due to the timing of the reaction, it was likely to be a penicillin related allergy, but could just be a perfectly timed viral rash. In the end, his antibiotic was switched up just to be safe and we headed back home.
And then that afternoon Zachary dove for a balloon, missed the couch and ended up landing head first on the floor. The resulting goose egg was really impressive. Three days later there’s still a bit of a bump and a nice purple bruise. It’s honestly a miracle that this kid hasn’t been to the ER with a head injury yet. *knock on wood*
Things are looking up for the weekend. Ollie is feeling MUCH better, and aside from a major meltdown right before his nap today, he’s been in a great mood the past few days. He still have occasional hives, and I’m beginning to think that they might be related to a virus, and not allergy related. Remember when Zach had his crazy hive issue a few years ago? I think that’s what Ollie’s issue is right now. It first occurred to me yesterday after he got his arm stuck in the drawer of Dylan’s nightstand (I don’t even know, don’t ask). About 5 minutes later, the point of contact between the nightstand and his arm was a red, hivey mess.
So, who the hell knows what’s going on. At least his ear infection is getting better. And hopefully no one smashes their head onto the floor for a while. Or, at the very least, the next few days.
