Because apparently Zachary’s brush with staph infection wasn’t enough for this family, Ollie now has it, too.
This is the email I sent to my mom on Monday morning. She was out of town (for her birthday! Happy Birthday mom!) so I gave her the cliffs notes version:
So, today has been eventful. But I will start with last night -
Dylan ate a brownie with walnuts in it, so I gave him benadryl, just to be safe. Don’t know if it was the walnuts, benadryl, or a combo of the 2, but he got super tired and pathetic and said he didn’t feel well and told me he really didn’t want to go to school tomorrow. Went to bed without complaint. At the same time, DJ’s sister noticed this redness on the back of Ollie’s leg and told me it looked like MRSA/staph.This morning Dylan was still complaining about his stomach, but I told him he had to go to school, and that I would come get him if I had to.The thing on Ollie’s leg drained and was super pussy and gross. I called the ped, who didn’t have any appts open and said to take him to urgent care. I texted DJ’s sister to tell her, she asked me to send her a picture of it, which I did. Then I got into the shower so I could get ready to head to urgent care. While I was in the shower my phone rang, and I thought it might be the doctor’s office with an appointment opening. It was the nurse at school, calling to say that Dylan’s stomach was hurting, which he says is from the walnuts he ate last night that he’s allergic to. I called Pam and asked if she’d go pick him up.Then my phone rang again and it was DJ’s sister, saying she had consulted with other medical people who thinks it’s definitely staph (maybe MRSA), but that since it’s already draining I don’t need to go to urgent care, and if I keep putting hot cloths on it and keep it draining, it might clear up on its own.SO, Grandma Pam dropped Dylan off (who was totally sheepish and obviously knows he pulled one over on us, FAKER) and we’re going to wait to see what happens with Ollie’s leg.NEVER A DULL MOMENT.

I think I stumbled upon your blog starting at Pinterest and no idea now even what subject, but I did end up here, and I am glad.
I’m a mom to four boys near the beach on the north shore of Oahu, so I’m sure we could swap some stories.
I’m enjoying your site, and just thought I should say hello.
Sorry bout the staph, that’s no fun.
Hi Monica,
Thanks for the lovely comment! It’s always nice to find online kindred spirits, isn’t it? I just checked out your site…your kids are gorgeous! Enjoy your “alone time” with just two of them!
